The Kigali Institute of Science & Technology (KIST) was a prominent public university in Rwanda, established in 1997 and highly regarded for its practical, industry-focused education in science, technology, and engineering. It was best known for strong programs in Information Technology, various engineering disciplines, and architecture, aiming to produce skilled professionals for national development. While KIST no longer operates as an independent entity, its legacy and faculties were integrated into the University of Rwanda in 2013/2014, forming the core of the College of Science and Technology (CST). Historically, KIST offered English-taught programs and attracted international students seeking hands-on training, with its former campus now serving as a vibrant hub for scientific and technological education within the larger University of Rwanda system. Its distinctive characteristic was its pioneering role in establishing high-quality, practical STEM education in post-genocide Rwanda.
