About
The University of Malawi, in its original form, served as the foundational and premier institution for higher education in Malawi for over five decades, known for its comprehensive academic offerings and producing many of the nation's leaders. It was particularly strong in faculties such as Law, Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities. While specific dedicated international offices might have been less formalized than in some Western institutions, the university welcomed students from across Africa, with all programs taught in English, fostering a diverse regional student body. Its most distinctive characteristic is its legacy as the 'mother university' from which several other key Malawian universities emerged after its restructuring in 2019.
