About
Buddhasravaka Bhikshu University, situated in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, is a distinctive public institution exclusively dedicated to the higher education and monastic training of Buddhist monks (Bhikshus). It is renowned for its profound academic programs in Buddhist Philosophy, Pali and Sanskrit languages, Buddhist Culture, and Meditation, offering a deeply immersive experience in traditional Theravada Buddhist scholarship. International Bhikshus are welcomed, seeking specialized religious education within a monastic environment, though primary instruction is in Pali, Sanskrit, and Sinhala. While there isn't a dedicated international office in the conventional sense, the university supports its diverse community of monks in their studies. Its most distinctive characteristic is its singular focus on preserving and propagating Theravada Buddhist teachings through a rigorous monastic academic curriculum for ordained monks.
