Founded in 1866, Rust College is a private historically Black liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church and holds the distinction of being the oldest HBCU in Mississippi. The college is best known for empowering first-generation and underserved students, offering strong undergraduate programs in business administration, biology, elementary education, and mass communications. Campus culture is deeply rooted in faith, social justice, and community service, fostering a supportive, family-like environment with small class sizes and close faculty mentorship. Distinctively, Rust operates on a unique modular academic calendar that allows students to focus intensively on just two courses during each eight-week block rather than taking a full load of courses all semester long.
