About

Founded in 1871, Alcorn State University holds the historic distinction of being the nation's first public historically Black land-grant institution. The university is widely recognized for its top-tier programs in agriculture and applied sciences, alongside highly respected offerings in nursing, biological sciences, and education. Student life on its scenic, rural campus in southwest Mississippi is defined by rich HBCU traditions, a close-knit and supportive community, Division I SWAC athletics, and the energetic performances of the famed "Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite" marching band.

Wikipedia:Alcorn State University is a public historically black land-grant research university adjacent to Lorman, Mississippi. Named after former Mississippi governor James L. Alcorn, it was founded in 1871 and was the first black land grant college established in the United States. The university is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
