About

As one of the nation's premier historic women’s colleges, Smith College is renowned for empowering female leadership through a rigorous, completely open curriculum with no general education distribution requirements. Academically, the college excels in government, the biological sciences, the humanities, and the arts, while standing out as the first women’s college in the country to offer an ABET-accredited engineering degree through its renowned Picker Engineering Program. Student life in the vibrant town of Northampton is socially conscious and tight-knit, anchored by an intimate residential house system and enriched by the immense academic and social resources of the Five College Consortium.

Wikipedia:Smith College is a private liberal arts women's college in Northampton, Massachusetts, United States. It was chartered in 1871 by Sophia Smith and opened in 1875. It is a member of the historic Seven Sisters colleges, a group of women's colleges in the Northeastern United States. Smith is also a member of the Five College Consortium with four other institutions in the Pioneer Valley: Mount Holyoke College, Amherst College, Hampshire College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst; students of each college are allowed to attend classes at any other member institution. On campus are Smith's Museum of Art and Botanic Garden, the latter designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.
