About

Berea College is a unique liberal arts institution best known for its No-Tuition Promise, which guarantees that every admitted student—primarily those with high financial need—receives a full-tuition scholarship. Academically strong in nursing, agriculture and natural resources, education, and the sciences, the college pairs rigorous academics with a mandatory Student Labor Program where all students work 10 to 15 hours per week across campus. Steeped in Appalachian heritage and holding the distinction of being the first interracial and coeducational college in the American South, Berea offers a close-knit, service-oriented culture centered on social justice and the dignity of labor.

Founded in 1855, it was the first college in the Southern United States to be coeducational and racially integrated. It admitted non-White students from as early as 1866 until 1904, and again after 1954.
