About
The Weizmann Institute of Science is a premier global center for scientific research and graduate education, best known for its world-leading contributions to mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, and the life sciences. Distinctive for its unique model of integrating rigorous research directly with advanced education, the Institute operates exclusively at the master's and doctoral levels through the Feinberg Graduate School. For international students, the entire academic experience is conducted entirely in English, fostering a deeply collaborative and cosmopolitan environment where scholars from dozens of countries work side by side. The Feinberg Graduate School provides comprehensive support infrastructure, including dedicated international student services, fully funded fellowships for all accepted graduate students, and assistance with housing and integration. A defining characteristic of Weizmann is its vibrant, interdisciplinary campus community in Rehovot, where students enjoy direct mentorship from leading scientists and immediate access to cutting-edge laboratories from day one.
Background
The Weizmann Institute of Science (or simply Weizmann; Hebrew: מכון ויצמן למדע Machon Weizmann LeMada) was established in 1934 as a public research university in Rehovot, fourteen years before the State of Israel was founded. The institute is now a multidisciplinary research center, employing around 3,800 scientists, postdoctoral fellows, Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, and scientific, technical, and administrative staff working at the institute. Unlike other Israeli universities, it exclusively offers postgraduate-only degrees in the natural and exact sciences. As of 2019, the Weizmann Institute of Science has been associated with six Nobel laureates and three Turing Award winners.
