The University of North London, established in 1992, no longer operates as an independent institution, having merged with London Guildhall University in 2002 to form London Metropolitan University. Historically, it was known for its strong focus on vocational and professional education, particularly in areas like business, law, and social sciences, serving a diverse student body. While it had a significant international student population and offered various support services, prospective international students today would engage with the comprehensive offerings and dedicated international student support at London Metropolitan University, which continues its legacy of accessible higher education in the heart of London. Its distinctive characteristic was its commitment to widening participation and providing opportunities for non-traditional students.
The University of North London (UNL) was a university in London, England, formed from the Polytechnic of North London (PNL) in 1992 when that institution was granted university status. PNL, in turn, had been formed by the amalgamation of the Northern Polytechnic and North-Western Polytechnic in 1971. In 1996, the university celebrated its centenary, dating from the year of the Northern Polytechnic's founding. UNL existed until 2002, when it merged with London Guildhall University to form London Metropolitan University. Its former premises now form the university's north campus, on Holloway Road and Highbury Grove, Islington.
