About

Durham University is globally renowned for its world-class research and academic excellence, consistently ranking among the top institutions in the United Kingdom with particular strengths in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. What truly sets Durham apart is its unique collegiate system—modeled after Oxford and Cambridge—which divides students into self-contained residential colleges that foster an exceptionally close-knit and supportive community. International students benefit from a comprehensive International Office that assists with everything from visa guidance to arrival services, ensuring a smooth transition into British academic and social life. While all standard degree programs are taught in English, international learners can also take advantage of pre-sessional English language courses and foundation pathways through the university's academic partners. Beyond the classroom, international students thrive in a vibrant campus culture featuring hundreds of student-run societies and sports clubs nestled within a stunning historic cathedral city.

The university is a member of the Russell Group of British research universities and is also affiliated with the regional N8 Research Partnership and international university groups including the Matariki Network of Universities and the Coimbra Group. The university estate includes 83 listed buildings, ranging from the 11th-century Durham Castle to the 1960s brutalist students' union. The university also owns and manages the Durham...
