About

Located in Salzburg, Austria, the Universität Mozarteum is globally renowned for its exceptional education in music, dramatic arts, and fine arts, drawing heavily on the rich cultural heritage of its namesake, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Its strongest faculties and programs are found in instrumental performance, composition, conducting, and music pedagogy, alongside dedicated departments for theater and stage design. International students make up a significant portion of the student body, benefiting from a vibrant, multicultural conservatory environment and comprehensive support through the International Office, which assists with admissions, housing, and integration. While instruction primarily takes place in German, several courses and masterclasses are accessible to international musicians, and the university frequently hosts international student mobility programs like Erasmus+. A distinctive characteristic that sets the institution apart is its deep integration into the historic city of Salzburg, offering students regular performance opportunities in world-class concert halls and prestigious local festivals.

Background

Mozarteum University Salzburg (German: Universität Mozarteum Salzburg), commonly known as the Mozarteum, is a university in Salzburg, Austria specialising in music, drama and directing, music and dance pedagogy, and art education. The term Mozarteum also refers to its predecessor institutions, which existed from 1841 onwards. It is one of three affiliated but separate entities under the "Mozarteum" name in Salzburg; the others are the International Mozarteum Foundation and its concert hall, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. The International Mozarteum Foundation is not part of the University but an independent association that, among other things, organises concerts, archives Mozart autographs, and maintains Mozart museums in Salzburg. Like its affiliates the University was established in honour of Salzburg-born musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
