The Universidad Nacional del Centro del Perú (UNCP) is a prominent public institution located in the central highlands of Peru, known for its strong commitment to regional development and research relevant to the Andean environment. Academically, it is highly regarded for its programs in Agricultural Sciences, Forestry, various Engineering disciplines (such as Civil and Systems Engineering), and Health Sciences, including Medicine and Nursing. While UNCP primarily serves a local student body and instruction is predominantly in Spanish, international students seeking an immersive cultural and linguistic experience will find opportunities to engage with Peruvian academic life. Support for international students typically involves general administrative assistance, and while dedicated English-taught programs are rare, the university fosters a vibrant academic community. Its distinctive characteristic lies in its deep integration with the socio-economic and environmental challenges and opportunities of the central Peruvian Andes.
The National University of the Center of Peru (Universidad Nacional del Centro del Perú, UNCP), is the largest public university of the center of Peru. It was founded by supreme decree law no. 46 on December 16, 1959. Apart from its main campus in El Tambo, Huancayo, the university runs decentralized establishments in Junín, Satipo, and Tarma. The first rector was distinguished Peruvian geographer Javier Pulgar Vidal. During the 1960s, several former establishments, such as those in Lima (Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal), Huánuco (Universidad Nacional Hermilio Valdizán), Huacho (Universidad Nacional José Faustino Sánchez Carrión) and Cerro de Pasco (Universidad Nacional Daniel Alcides Carrión), were transformed into universities.
