About
Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Xochimilco (UAM-Xochimilco) is widely recognized in Mexico for its innovative approach to higher education, particularly within the social sciences, health sciences, and design. Its academic strength is rooted in its distinctive "modular system," an interdisciplinary curriculum that replaces traditional lectures with team-based research on real-world community problems. For international students, the university offers a welcoming environment supported by a dedicated international mobility office that assists with incoming exchanges, housing guidance, and Spanish-language immersion. While most degree programs are taught in Spanish rather than English, the university actively receives international cohorts through institutional partnerships and Latin American exchange networks. A defining characteristic that sets UAM-Xochimilco apart is its mandatory social service and community-engaged learning philosophy, which immerses students directly into Mexican society and grassroots public health initiatives from their very first academic term.
