About

Justus Liebig University Giessen is a traditional German research institution best known for its world-class life sciences, agricultural research, and veterinary medicine, carrying forward the legacy of its namesake pioneer in agricultural chemistry. While German remains the primary language of instruction for many undergraduate degrees, the university offers an increasing selection of English-taught master's programs, particularly in fields like environmental sciences, crop protection, and international law. International students are well-supported by the International Office, which provides comprehensive orientation weeks, language courses, and dedicated advisory services to help navigate both bureaucratic requirements and academic life. The student experience is deeply rooted in Giessen's vibrant, compact campus culture where international and domestic students mingle closely in university-run residence halls and numerous student-led cultural initiatives. A distinctive characteristic that sets the university apart is its historic ties to Nobel Laureate Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, whose former laboratory on campus is preserved as a museum celebrating the birthplace of X-ray physics.
