Hong Kong Shue Yan University

About

Hong Kong Shue Yan University is recognized as the territory's first private university, placing a strong emphasis on traditional liberal arts education blended with professional practical training. Its most prominent academic strengths lie within the fields of journalism, communication, counseling psychology, and business, where it has built a solid reputation for producing industry-ready graduates. While the institution primarily conducts its teaching in Cantonese and English, it offers selected programs and modules designed to accommodate non-local students, supported by an International Affairs Office that assists with admissions, visas, and cultural adaptation. The student experience is characterized by a close-knit campus community nestled in the Braemar Hill neighborhood, offering a more intimate and personalized learning environment compared to larger public universities in the city. A particularly distinctive characteristic of the university is its founding motto, "Cultivating Virtues of Benevolence," which deeply infuses its curriculum with a commitment to moral character development alongside academic rigor.
