Gondar University

About

The University of Gondar, located in the historic city of Gondar, Ethiopia, is widely recognized for its strong legacy in health sciences, particularly medicine and public health. It evolved from the Public Health College and Training Centre established in 1954, making it one of the oldest and most respected medical training institutions in the country. While its primary language of instruction for many programs is English, especially at the postgraduate level and within its core health faculties, dedicated international student support services might be more limited compared to larger global universities. International students primarily engage through its English-taught programs, particularly in fields like medicine, nursing, and public health, and benefit from its rich clinical training environment. A distinctive characteristic is its deep historical roots in medical education combined with its location in a UNESCO World Heritage city, offering a unique cultural immersion alongside academic pursuits.
