About

Freie Universität Berlin is globally renowned for its exceptional research and strong academic standing in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, consistently ranking among Germany's top institutions of higher education. The university offers a wide variety of English-taught master's programs and specialized international tracks, attracting a diverse student body where roughly one-fifth of the total enrollment comes from abroad. International students are well-supported by the International Student Service, which provides comprehensive orientation weeks, language courses, and administrative assistance to help newcomers settle into university life. What sets the institution apart is its historic commitment to academic freedom and global collaboration, deeply embedded in its origins as a Western-backed university during the Cold War. Today, this legacy translates into a vibrant, globally connected campus culture situated in the dynamic and culturally rich capital city of Germany.

Former and current staff include five Nobel laureates. The FU Berlin has produced a total of 18 winners of the Leibniz Prize up to the year 2020. According...
