About

Established in 1890 as Georgia’s oldest public historically Black university (HBCU), Savannah State University is best known for its rich cultural heritage and standout programs in marine science, business administration, and homeland security and emergency management. The university's picturesque 201-acre campus is uniquely situated along a coastal salt marsh, providing students with direct access to tidal dock facilities and research vessels for hands-on ecological fieldwork. Student life is anchored by a close-knit, family-like HBCU culture featuring active Divine Nine Greek organizations, the high-energy "Powerhouse of the South" marching band, and easy access to the vibrant cultural scene of historic Savannah.
